October 20, 2026 · 3 min
If a Mexican criminal-record certificate enters an Italian citizenship by marriage file, the official name to use on this page (2026) is the Constancia de Antecedentes Penales Federales, issued in the circuit of the Órgano Administrativo Desconcentrado de Prevención y Readaptación Social (OADPRS) / Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC). Do not use outdated names if the issuer has renamed the product.
The service
If you already hold the Constancia, we can prepare the sworn translation into Italian. The request on OADPRS portals and the Apostille in Mexico remain official channels.
Why it may enter art. 5
Article 5 of Law 91/1992 and the 18 July 2025 instructions provide, among the annexes, the criminal-record certificate of the country of origin, translated and legalised/apostilled. If origin (or another scope the post asks for: citizenship, third countries of residence) is Mexico, this is the federal certificate of reference today. A local instruction may also ask for state documentation: the list is set by the office, not by a single model.
Format and Apostille
You obtain the Constancia yourself on the official OADPRS channel. Keep the format (digital, print, verification features) whole for Italy. Mexico and Italy apply the Hague Convention: Apostille on Mexican federal public documents goes through the SEGOB — Apostilla y Legalización circuit, according to current competences. The Apostille is lodged through that official circuit.
| Item | Issuer (2026 schema) | ItaloDocs |
|---|---|---|
| Constancia de Antecedentes Penales Federales | OADPRS / SSPC | Does not obtain it. Translates the complete specimen |
| Apostille | Competent Mexican authority (SEGOB circuit / state, according to the act) | Does not arrange it |
| Other countries of residence | Issuers of each country | A single quote if you send the files together |
Several countries
Being born in Mexico does not exhaust the certificates asked for if you have lived in the US, Spain or elsewhere. The guide remains foreign criminal records. US record: FBI. Mexican birth: acta de nacimiento.
Already have the Constancia and, where it applies, the Apostille? Send it in full for a sworn-translation quote into Italian. If you have records from other countries, send everything together.
Frequently asked questions
What is the official name in 2026?
Constancia de Antecedentes Penales Federales (OADPRS / SSPC). Always check the official portal before using an old name.
Is the federal certificate enough?
It is often the Mexican origin certificate. A post may ask for more: a consular list does not apply automatically to a Prefettura.
Is Apostille needed?
As a rule yes, for a public act destined for Italy, unless the recipient says otherwise.
Is the Apostille translated?
It depends on the recipient; in Italy the complete specimen is often translated.
Does ItaloDocs obtain the Constancia?
The service starts once you already hold the document: we can prepare the sworn translation into Italian.
