In citizenship by marriage, documentary problems rarely “block an application automatically”. More often they may lead to a request for extra papers, a rejected upload or a translation that has to be redone. This page lists frequent mistakes on records and translations — not a legal checklist. The instructions and the competent office still govern.

Limit

ItaloDocs does not file the application and does not guarantee the outcome. We can review the scope of the translation on the file you already have and prepare a single quote.

Names, surnames, dates

  • A second given name on the partida and missing from the passport: the translation reproduces the partida, it does not “align”.
  • Two surnames versus one after marriage: a separate act or statement of concordance may be needed, not a translator’s footnote.
  • Dates in different formats: check them before translating. See name and date discrepancies.

Incomplete translation

  • The reverse, a marginal note, a stamp or a signature is missing.
  • The Apostille is omitted when the addressee wants the whole specimen translated.
  • Three pages out of five are translated “to get started” — then swearing is redone.

Apostille

  • Apostille omitted on a public act the office wants apostilled.
  • Apostille added after a translation already closed.
  • Assuming the Apostille “expires” like a criminal-record certificate, or the reverse. The Apostille itself does not expire; the criminal certificate may have a validity period from the issue date: Apostille of Venezuelan documents.

Criminal-record certificates

  • Certificate older than the six months from the issue date stated in the Italian instructions — not from the Apostille or the translation.
  • Only the country you live in now is produced. See criminal records from every country of residence.
  • An Italian Casellario is used instead of the foreign certificate.

Digital files

  • A photo instead of a scan or an official PDF.
  • QR code or verification page cropped: digital Venezuelan documents.
  • An over-compressed, unreadable PDF.

The file and the marriage

  • A foreign marriage not yet in the condition the office asks for (transcription, time limits) — that is not a translation problem, but it is worth knowing before commissioning a package.
  • Typos in translation (names, act numbers).
  • Annexes (judgments, powers of attorney, discrepancy papers) left out of the quote.
  • Inconsistencies between birth, marriage and criminal record: each translation follows its own act.
None of these points “causes automatic refusal”. They can create friction. Check before swearing a large volume.

Before translating several documents

You can send us the complete file so we can review the scope of the translation and prepare a single quote. If the pieces are Venezuelan: Venezuelan documents for citizenship by marriage.

Frequently asked questions

If a country of residence is missing, is the application refused?

We do not say that. An integration request may follow. The list is set by the office.

Can I have only the first page translated?

Not advisable. Swearing as a rule covers the specimen that is sworn.

Does ItaloDocs fix names that differ between documents?

No. The translation is faithful.

Is an unreadable QR code serious?

It can prevent treating the file as a complete specimen. A fresh official download is better.

Can I send everything together?

Yes: it is the cheapest way not to forget an annex.
